honestly, Erik really doesn't have the same concept of childhood as other people. it wouldn't occur to him to be less fatalistic and cynical with someone just because they're young, and he views people who do so as sentimental at best and leaving kids vulnerable at worst.

that's kind of a tangent. HE REALLY WASN'T TRYING TO PISS HER OFF but he's also in kind of an odd headspace in the threads with both Machika and Rain -- he's meeting them for the first time while he's in IDGAF Land due to being preoccupied over Charles missing, so he's not trying to win them over as much as he might usually.
